Matthew W. LaVere
Mr. LaVere acts as counsel and advisor for a very diverse group of clients, including small and large businesses, restaurants and bars, breweries, public entities, car and truck dealerships, insurance brokerages, music and arts venues, non-profits, realtor associations, HOAs, real estate investors and individual clients. Mr. LaVere advises his clients in all aspects of business and real estate matters, including: real estate and business acquisitions, formation of business entities, negotiation and formation of contracts/leases, contract enforcement, employment laws and business regulations, trade secrets, construction law, and common-interest development (HOA) law. Mr. LaVere is licensed to practice law in both California and Nevada, and has represented businesses and individuals throughout both states.
Mr. LaVere has extensive trial experience and has litigated a wide-variety of matters, including: breach of contract, breach of commercial lease, inverse condemnation, class action defense, trade secrets, enforcement of pre-marital agreements, personal injury, construction defect, land use, probate and trust administration, real estate disputes, business disputes and dissolutions, wage and hour, employment discrimination, sexual harassment, wrongful termination, and retaliation.
Matthew W. LaVere was born and raised in Ventura, California. He graduated from Villanova Preparatory School before moving onto Pepperdine University where he earned a bachelor's degree cum laude, with honors and distinction in 2000. Mr. LaVere earned his law degree from the Pepperdine University School of Law in 2006, where he also earned a Certificate in Alternative Dispute Resolution from Pepperdine's top-ranked Strauss Institute.
Prior to practicing law, Mr. LaVere’s previous jobs included working for President Bill Clinton, as a legislative aide on Capitol Hill, and a six month position with the United States Attorney's Office Organized Crime Strike Force in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Mr. LaVere is very involved in the local community and proudly serves as a Board Member of the Ventura College Foundation, Project Understanding, The Extended Learning Academy, and the Downtown Ventura Rotary Club. He also currently serves as an appointed Commissioner on the Ventura Parks Commission.
He resides in Ventura with his wife Alicia and daughter Lucia.
